Back at Work

So I went back to work Wednesday. I admit I cried when I walked in the break room at work. It hit me all at once, but then we were so busy at work that I didn't have time to think about it. So then I was OK and I haven't cried since. It was a short work week. I have the week-end off to attend Jeremy's half-ironman Sunday. It might have been short thank goodness but it was rough. Jeremy and I are juggling Sadie between us for now (except for every other week-end family will watch her).We see one another during the hand-off and we don't have any days off together.
She is a great nurser but she doesn't take a bottle very well. Each night Jeremy has brought her up to me at work around 9pm to nurse. At that point she hasn't taken any of my hard-work pumped breastmilk and has been crying pretty hard. I have been able to take my break at that time. It is nice for me, I get to see her, it is faster than pumping, I don't have to clean any bottles/pump accessories, and she calms down and is able to sleep for Jeremy. So basically she eats right before I come to work ( I have it timed out that she can nurse until 2:54 before I jump in my car to be at work by 3pm. Thank goodness for living exactly one mile from work). And then she doesn't eat again until Jeremy brings her at 9pm. I just hope she will learn to take it soon because Jeremy doesn't like to have her upset for that long (and I don't either). Anyone and everyone please feel free to give advice. So far most have said just to keep trying.

  1. oh my gosh dawn, this makes me tear up as i can totally relate (refer to all my lengthy blog posts with both my babies). i went to grad school (evening classes) when andrew was 4 months old and i had to go back to work when emily was 5 months old. emily would actually take a bottle, but andrew, not so much. i would nurse him right before i left for class at 4 and kyle would basically bounce him while he cried until i got home at 9 or 10. he honestly did not take a bottle (actually it was more of a cup) until 8 months but he did adjust to our night schedule over time. he seemed to just understand that if he wanted mommy, he was going to have to wait. i would have jeremy keep trying with the bottle so she at least knows she has an option, but be willing to continue your current pattern so she knows that she can for sure have mommy if she just waits. we're thinking of you LOTS!! xoxo
